Faulty poll; no option for those who would answer, "Yes, they have affected my plans to buy - I have decided not to buy this year," or "Yes, they have affected my plans to buy - I can't buy this year, after all."

I've put too much into my 92 pickup to sell it now. Just keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps running good!

Why buy when your current one works fine? I still have a 14 year old car. Just buy used if you need it. There is a difference between need and want.

Of course, this poll is going to be biased. People on this website are concerned about prices, at least some of them but not with the way they're driving. It doesn't reflect the "rich" or "dumb" people that will still buy a new car.

I had no choice as the transmission died on my old vehicle. Had hoped to keep it at least one more year. On the other hand, paid about the same price for essentially the same vehicle I bought 7 years ago.

Bought two vechicals in 2008, one new (motorcycle 60+mpg) and one a used 2006 (truck for work 20mpg) with less than 25,000 miles on it. Plan on driving both for many years to come.

I like my dad's approach to a situation.. if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have 2 cars that run just fine, so until one of those blows up, breaks down, etc, I will keep running what I have and be happy with them.

Leased a Ford Flex in July of 2008 so I am not planning on another vehicle in 2009. The Flex is a fantastic vehicle. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a crossover van.

I am not planning to buy a new car soon. Last brand new car was in '86. After paying $25K + you lose $2k as you drive off the lot. Have you seen the new electric car coming out in October? If this doesn't force competition in this area, nothing will, since the Big 3 are unable to compete due to the financial crunch.

There is a lot of talk about the cost of new cars and tax cuts for buying a new car. How about a tax penalty for buying one not made HERE in the USA? And a little less of one for one made in the Americans. That sounds like a good reason for offshore manufactures to locate more plants here!!!

I bought my last car in '06 and have 40+K miles on the clock. It has been a trouble free car, so why mess with something that works. An exact replavement seems to be $4000-5000 more than what I paid in '06 and car salesmaen are car salesmen and slither around not giving out any good deals unless it is for an 18 mpg truck or SUV. I'll pass on a new car for a while.

Not planning on buying a new car. Thanks to Bush Admin. policies, no real cars I would want to buy here in the US.
Why we don't get fuel efficient, performance cars with style made in Europe is crazy.

So I just keep driving my fuel efficient, frummy, 49MPG, diesel engine that won't die, but the VW 5 seater, chassis, body parts falling off. Love the engine hate the VW.
Lets see SMART car with GAS engine 40ish MPG. two seater....SMART Diesel 70mpg....not that I want a SMART car but you get the point.

I am not considering buying a vehicle this year. Thinking getting a Volt. If the price is right (=>$25k) My first upgrade will be more batteries! So it will get at least 100 miles per charge. Perhaps Apple want's to sell their batteries to GM. Then the Volt would get 120 Miles per charge and last for 3000 charges (~41 years)

Note to "Gas Thirsty"; In addition to the sales tax break on purchases of a new vehicle, there are existing tax credits for fuel efficient vehicles, such as hybrids and some of the new "clean diesels." For example, the VW Jetta TDI, diesel qualifies for a $1,300 tax credit. See: 2009 Jetta TDI Tax Credit
or Green Car Website

I purchased TWO new vehicles in 2008. Where is my break!??! I tried to do my part to stimulate the economy last year and what did I get...? Oh well. Those who supported this massive package will regret it and probably sooner than later.

I answered, "N/A, Not Sure." I would like to buy a new vehicle this year if conditions permit me to do so. I read that the recent "Stimulus Plan" contains a sales tax credit for new vehicles purchased after the bill becomes law, and prior to the end of this calendar year. This may be the added incentive that I need.

I will not be buying a "new" vehicle in 2009
I bought a "new" 2008 Subaru in April/2008 & I got super end of model year % price on it.
