When my car tells me, or the light comes on.
There is supposed to be oil in my car?

As long as you change your oil regularly, use oil that is API (american petroluem Institute) approved, you should be able to run 4K or more miles. My '05 truck does not require synthetic oils, and the Mfg oil change requirement is 7500 miles - 5000 miles for severe duty. Vehicles: 05 truck every 5K miles 01 small SUV every 4K miles 07 Kawasaki only has 1600 miles (first change at 1000 miles). Read your vehicle Mfgr requirements for severe duty. Most vehicles fit this schedule.

My most recent change was over 5,000 miles with Conventional and an Oil Sample test showed I had some increased wear. I've regularly used Synthetic so I'm not sure if the wear is because of a mechanical issue or the change in Oil type. The TBN was .9 which indicated the Oil needed a change so I'm leaning toward the Oil did it. I'll be changing or checking my Oil a bit earlier next time (at 3-4000 miles) to see how the wear is doing.
